ABOUT ME

Hiyeee. I’m Mandy…

I was born and raised here in Colorado, and I am very proud to call Denver my home. While growing up, I spent most of my time following my creative heart - from singing to acting to drawing to dancing… I have always loved the arts, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice Performance from Metropolitan State University. I performed in several local productions, and sang with the chorus of Opera Colorado, as well as several other production companies and various singing gigs.

Me as a bebe.

Although I loved singing and performing, my true heart has always been with the visual arts. Throughout my life, drawing and sketching occupied the majority of my free time. I also loved sewing and became obsessed with collecting fabrics of all textures and patterns which I eventually turned into a small business making accessories.

One of my first paintings… “Gentle” - October, 2014

In the summer of 2014, I decided I wanted to learn something new. And although I had tried various other creative pursuits throughout my life, I had never really tried painting. And so I embarked on my painting journey - reading books and taking online classes. I began painting with acrylics and quickly realized I had so much to learn. And while I devoured all the information, I found that the true knowledge came from doing the work… painting… and painting… and painting… The more I painted, the more I learned, and the more I learned, the more I wanted to paint. Painting has become my PASSION - I am still learning and I know I still have so much to learn. Painting, (and especially abstract painting,) has become the MYSTERY I need to solve.

My Artist Statement

My work involves a vivid interplay of bold, colorful elements that showcase dynamic shapes, expressing a range of emotions and energies. Each painting serves as an invitation for reflection and connection, allowing each viewer to interpret the piece in their own way. Some have said my work looks “like music would sound.” Others have referred to my art as “sexy graffiti,” and both interpretations resonate with me.

I blend my abstract style with the thoughts and feelings that exist deep inside me. And even though I use my intuition to guide me when I paint, these thoughts and feelings always have a way of finding their way out of me, and onto the canvas. My paintings are full of texture, light and color. There are several layers - each containing a mysterious journey made up of several twists and turns. And with each layer… I explore, I feel, I grow, and I learn. And with each layer - my heart beats faster and faster. This exploration is an intrinsic part of my creative process that prioritizes originality and authenticity. My intention is to make art that brings joy, and makes hearts beat faster, while also reminding each viewer to feel strong and powerful in their own authenticity.

When I am not painting in my studio, I am helping to run things at FM Boutique in Denver, or you can find me at the gym, teaching Zumba. I have always loved dancing too. In my free time, I love hanging with my two adult sons, brunching with friends, traveling, and snuggling with my dog, Bigsby.
